Hip Replacement Recall by DePuy Orthopaedics

USA - DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. recently announced that they will perform a hip replacement recall of their products ie ASR ™ XL Acetabular and DePuy ASR ™ System from the market. It was published globally by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) agency of the United States and other regulatory agencies.

ASR device is part of a class of large diameter, monoblock resurfacing and hip replacement devices are preferred by surgeons for younger patients who may benefit from the stability of the device, thereby limiting opportunities recurrent dislocation.

The DePuy ASR ™ Hip resurfacing system was introduced in 2003 and is only approved for use outside the U.S. that ASR ™ XL Acetabular System was first launched in 2004 and has been available around the world.

"We regret that this recall will be on for patients, family members and surgeons. We are committed to helping patients and healthcare providers by providing information through various channels and pay the cost of doctor visits, tests and procedures related to the recall.


DePuy will cover reasonable and customary costs of monitoring and treatment services, including revision surgery, is associated with the withdrawal of the ASR. "
